Research and Documentation
The archival record for “Usa” in the Society’s journals is limited to a single brief notice. G.N. Appell, writing from Harvard University, published a short note in 1969 reporting a reference in the journal of James Austin Wilder to early American traders on the Baram River in Sarawak [1]. The note is explicitly framed as a request for further information from readers, and Appell states that he has been unable to locate additional details on the individuals concerned [1, p. 221]. No other article in the available records addresses the subject, and the entry therefore reflects the limits of a single short notice rather than a sustained body of scholarship.
