Tusut

This document is the Proceedings of the Annual General Meeting of the Straits Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, held on 23 March 1908. The publication metadata (title “Tusut,” author B. Sandin, 1977) does not correspond to the source text, which is a set of AGM minutes from 1908.

Summary

The minutes record the attendance of eight members, including Dr. Galloway in the Chair, and the routine confirmation of previous minutes, the secretary’s report, and the treasurer’s account (p. 2). A resolution was passed expressing the society’s sense of loss at the retirement of Bishop Hose, D.D., who had founded the society in 1877 and served as President almost continuously for over forty years (pp. 2–3).

A letter from H. C. Robinson outlined a scheme for the systematic study of the Fauna of the Peninsula, noting that while reptiles, batrachians, and birds had been well studied, mammals had been little investigated. The Government of the F. M. S. had sanctioned funding, and the society voted a grant of $500 per year for three years toward the purpose (p. 3). Officers for the ensuing year were then elected, with Dr. Galloway as President and H. N. Ridley as Secretary (p. 3).
