The grave-stone of Sultan Shah of Malacca

This is a concluding note by Zainul-Abidin bin Ahmad on the grave-stone of Sultan Mansur Shah of Malacca, published in JSBRAS Vol. 86 (1922), pp. 368–388.

Summary

The text comprises the final pages of the article, in which the author offers minor corrections to the reading of the inscription and identifies several misprints in the published plates and Romanised text (p. 388). He notes that the absence of the “n” in one word and the “r” in “Mansur,” as well as the lack of diacritical points, may be attributable to the mason’s errors or to wear, though he also suggests they could be explained by the blending of letters in the interwoven script (p. 388). He closes by praising the reconstructions as “really very ingenious” and the resulting reading as “much more acceptable” than the previously accepted one (p. 388).
