Some new eastern gingers
This short note by H.N. Ridley describes three new species of eastern gingers (Zingiberaceae) collected from Celebes and the Bismarck Archipelago, published in the Journal of the Straits Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society (1900).
Summary
Ridley describes Alpinia (Hellenia) Celebica n. sp., a herb from Celebes allied to A. Fraseriana of Borneo but distinguished by its very deeply cleft lip (p. 98). He then describes Anomum terminale n. sp., collected by Micholitz in the Bismarck Archipelago and flowered at the Singapore Botanic Gardens in February 1900; the species is noted for its terminal spike (abnormal among Anomums) and red bracts, and Ridley expresses reluctance to erect a separate genus for it (pp. 98–99). Finally, he describes Tapeinocheilus Koordersiana n. sp., a tall (25 ft.) plant from Celebes allied to Miquel’s T. pungens but with larger flowers and pubescent bracts, named in honour of Dr. Koorders for his fine collections in Celebes (p. 99).
