Summary

The note provides definitions and etymological observations for a selection of Malay terms, several of which are identified as dialectal (Johore, Kedah, Penang) or borrowed from Chinese, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindustani. Entries include bagok (a common name for the pig-tailed macaque), lemusir (a cut of mutton), pochai and chukian (Johore terms of Chinese origin), panglong and ongke (terms relating to Chinese wood-cutting kongsi and trade administration in Johore), and bedil (a firearm, linked to Tamil vedil).
