Some birds of Tiuman Island

This short note by C. Boden Kloss records a list of bird species collected on Tioman Island during two visits in 1899 and 1900, published in the Journal of the Straits Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society (p. 280).

Summary

Kloss describes two collecting trips to Tioman Island: a week-long stay at Joara Bay on the east coast in 1899, and a shorter stop at Tingah Bay on the west coast in 1900, both undertaken with Dr. W. L. Abbott. He provides a brief geographical and administrative description of the island, noting its dimensions, elevation (highest peak 3,444 ft.), and its status as a Pahang territory inhabited by a small Malay community (p. 280).

The note records four bird species collected below 500 feet altitude: Malacopterus magnirostre, Stachyris davisoni, Cyanoderma erythropterum, and Aegithina viridissima. Kloss notes that no new bird species were obtained and that his original field notes, which would have included additional observed species, were mislaid (p. 280).
