On a stage in the development of the tiger-shark Stegostoma tigrinum (Gmel.). Records of the Raffles Museum, No. 20

This is a brief note by N. Smedley describing an unusual developmental stage in the tiger-shark Stegostoma tigrinum, originally published in the Records of the Raffles Museum (No. 20) and reproduced in JMBRAS Vol. 4 (1926).

Summary

The note records two observations on a specimen (No. 5) of the tiger-shark in its egg case. First, the head of the specimen is oriented toward what has been designated the rear of the case, a condition Smedley considers exceptional. Second, the presence of colonies of hydroid organisms on the cases is taken to indicate a lengthy period of incubation (p. 166).
