Notes on the flying frog Rhacophorus nigropalmatus

This short note by R. Hanitsch describes a third recorded specimen of the flying frog Rhacophorus nigropalmatus, a male obtained by A. D. Machado from Kuala Merbao, Ulu Pahang, in January 1899.

Summary

Hanitsch documents the specimen’s external characters, noting that the cutaneous fringes are more developed than in the previously recorded specimens from Borneo and Perak, with an additional triangular fringe along the inner side of the upper arm (p. 96). The frog measured 84 mm from snout to vent, was bright green when alive, and its testes were 15 mm in length (p. 97).

The note also situates the species within the genus, distinguishing it from Rh. pardalis (Borneo and the Philippines), Rh. reinwardtii (Java and Sumatra), and similar species from Malabar, the Eastern Himalayas, and Madagascar (p. 97).
