Note on the occurrence in Selangor of three vertebrates new to the Malay Peninsula

This note by H. C. Robinson, Curator of the Selangor State Museum, records the discovery of three vertebrate species previously unrecorded from the Malay Peninsula, all collected in Selangor (p. 223).

The three species are Draco maximus (a flying lizard from Borneo), Chrysophlegma mystacale (a woodpecker from Sumatra), and Ptilocercus lowii (the pen-tailed tree shrew, a genus considered characteristic of Borneo). Robinson notes that the Draco and Ptilocercus specimens were captured in deep jungle about nine miles from Kuala Lumpur by the Dyak collector attached to the Selangor Museum, while the woodpecker was a previously overlooked skin collected by Dr. Duncker on the Semangko Pass in 1901 (pp. 223–225). He provides brief descriptions of each, including measurements and colouration, and observes that the peninsular Ptilocercus may prove separable from the Bornean race, though cautions against drawing conclusions from a single specimen (p. 225).
