Note on the Kelantan rejang

A short note by Anker Rentse documenting a traditional Kelantanese almanac (rejang) text, transcribed from an old book attributed to Nik Wan Hamad, a former secretary to Sultan Muhammad IV of Kelantan.

Summary

The note reproduces in full a Malay-language “Perjalanan Rejang” — a 30-day lunar calendar in which each day of the month of Rejang is associated with an animal or object (e.g., kuda, kijang, harimau, kuching, etc.) and carries specific auspicious or inauspicious prognostications for activities such as childbirth, marriage, planting, travel, and trade (p. 139–140). The text was dictated by Nik Man, a tukang lelakong wayang kulit (shadow-puppet master) in Tengku Temenggong’s Kampong at Kota Bharu, who stated he copied it from a manuscript written by his grandfather, Nik Wan Hamad (p. 140).
