A Milano muas

E. V. Andreini presents an English translation of a Milano Muas titled Long Kendi (“The Gold House”), published in JMBRAS Vol. 9, pt. 1 (1931), pp. 129–130.

Summary

The narrative follows Raja Bunga Mas of Kling, who travels with his cousin Krabu Mas to the court of Raja Inu Bunga of Reji Kenadan Lanya Reji Bawai to seek the hand of Princess Satimbang Mas (p. 129). The princess is already affianced to Bakaran, King of the Upper Sky, but she consents to follow Bunga Mas back to Kling. Bakaran learns of the elopement through a dream and a wizard’s interpretation, then wages war against Kling (pp. 129–130).

After a three-day battle in which Bakaran captures and chains Bunga Mas, Krabu Mas negotiates his release in exchange for securing Princess Norchaya for Bakaran. This triggers a second conflict when Bedak Mas, Norchaya’s original fiancé, discovers the deception and calls upon his adopted father Raja Naga, the most powerful king of the seas, who sends his dragon army to destroy Kling. The story ends with a catastrophic flood that kills most of the people, including Bunga Mas, and transforms the country into sea (p. 130).
